On International Women’s Day, the Prime Minister announced a reduction of Rs 100 in the price of LPG. This follows the government’s extension of a Rs 300 subsidy per LPG cylinder for impoverished women, a measure implemented in October last year and set to continue until March 31. In 2023, ahead of five state elections, the Modi government had already reduced the LPG price by Rs 200, presenting it as a gift for women before Raksha Bandhan. This reduction also applies to beneficiaries under the PM Ujjwala Yojana. Until August 2023, a 14.2kg LPG cylinder in the national capital cost Rs 1,103; however, after the price cut, the rate dropped to Rs 903 for domestic gas. With the recent Rs 100 reduction, the new price is expected to be only Rs 803 per 14.2 kg cylinder.
