Temporary announcements during disaster is only an eyewash, Vijay slams T.N. govt

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president Vijay on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the DMK government in handling floods during the recent cyclone Fengal. He said the temporary announcements that the State government makes during the time of disaster is only an eyewash.

In a social media post, he said people will always be in the belief that no matter how big a storm or natural calamity occurs, the State government will protect us. But what they experienced was that the government abandoned them during dangerous situations without protecting them and had not taken even minimum precautionary measures, he alleged.

“Meeting people, distributing relief assistance and taking pictures every year during the time of cyclone have become a ceremonial ritual for the rulers. How is it fair? The ruling dispensation completely forgets that it has the ultimate responsibility in fulfilling the needs of people during the time of natural disasters and has not thought about bringing permanent solutions,” he said.

“The present ruling dispensation is thinking that whatever happens, it can criticise the opposition, give them saffron colours and escape with a drama. Time will prove that all these attempts will fail before the people,” said Mr. Vijay. He appealed to his party cadre to extend support to the affected people.
