OpenAI says it did not copy Scarlett Johansson’s voice for ChatGPT’s ‘Sky’: Report

A new report by the Washington Post suggests that that OpenAI had started searching for voice actors for ChatGPT before it approached Scarlett Johansson.

Hollywood actor Scarlett Johansson recently accused ChatGPT maker OpenAI of using a voice for its AI-powered chatbot that sounds “eerily similar” to hers. She alleged that the company copied her voice after she turned down a request by CEO Sam Altman to license it.

Now, a new report by the Washington Post suggests that OpenAI issued a casting call last year and hired an actress for ‘Sky’, the voice Johansson claims sounds like her. According to the publication, documents reveal that the voice actor for ‘Sky’ was hired months before Sam Altman contacted Johansson. The publication also says that according to interviews with several people involved in the hiring process, OpenAI did not mention it was looking for someone with Scarlett Johansson-like voice.
