Destiny 2 Player Transforms Their Hunter Into Marvel’s Dr. Doom
4 months ago |

A clever Destiny 2 player has invoked the power of Marvel supervillain Dr. Doom using a customized costume. They harnessed the expressive potential of Destiny 2 to create customized looks by drawing from its large armor and color shader library.

While The Witness might be the greatest villain in Destiny 2, there’s no denying that Dr. Doom is the far more iconic villain in real-life popular culture. First created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1962 for The Fantastic Four, the sinister megalomaniac mastermind from the fictional country of Latveria has been a constant presence in the Marvel universe. Over the decades, Dr. Doom has been villain to many Marvel heroes besides The Fantastic Four, and even served as an anti-hero at times. In keeping with his talent of combining both scientific know-how and mastery of dark magic, Doom has taken on the role of both Sorcerer Supreme and Iron Man at times in his career. In 2015’s grand Secret Wars crossover event, Dr. Doom even presided over the utter destruction of the Marvel multiverse, becoming the omnipotent ruler of what was left as “God Emperor Doom.”

DestinyFashion community member Mohawked-Knight called on Doom’s classic ego and villainy with a newly-fashioned Hunter Guardian custom costume. Between their Doom costume and other iconic comic book characters like Wolverine, the Last City will soon be defended by a growing cadre of superheroes.

Destiny 2 Dr. Doom Costume Expertly Replicates Doom’s Mask

The key element in Mohawked-Knight’s Dr. Doom costume is the premium Machined Skirmisher Mask from the Eververse store. Introduced as a robot-themed cosmetic set in the Destiny 2 Season of Plunder (Season 18), the Mask looks very close to Doom’s signature mask when colored by the Gambit Emerald shader.

The rest of the costume is completed by the Shinobu’s Vow Hunter Exotic armor with the Boreal Char shader, the low-rarity Gumshoe Gumption Vest chest piece, the Iron Forerunner Strides, and the Rekindled Solstice Cloak. Besides the arms and head, all the pieces are colored with the Iron to Steel shader from the Iron Banner. The end result is a clear recreation of Dr. Doom’s distinctive aesthetic, which often evokes medieval-style armor and surplices, despite having advanced technology underneath.

Fellow Destiny 2 players praised Mohawked-Knight’s work, taking particular notice of the expert combination of a traditional hood and cloak with the iron-like texture afforded by the shader-and-mask combination. The color blocking also drew attention, as Dr. Doom typically favors deep green and grey iron in his various costumes.
