The Bangalore University became the center of controversy after the institution rescheduled a B Com exam without prior notice clashing with the Chartered Accountant (CA) exam scheduled for the same day. Initially, the B Com exam was set to be held at 9:30 AM on Thursday but was postponed to 2 pm without prior notice. The rescheduled exam reportedly left the parents and students in a fix.
BJP MLA and former minister S Suresh Kumar highlighted the issue after a first-year B Com student and her father approached him in distress over the sudden change.
In a statement, Kumar said, the student, pursuing both B Com and CA, was notified via a mobile message at 4:30 pm on Wednesday that her B Com exam had been rescheduled to 2 pm the next day, coinciding with her CA exam.
“At 4.30 pm today (Wednesday), she received a message from Bangalore City University on her mobile, stating, ‘The exam scheduled for 9.30 am tomorrow has been postponed to 2 pm tomorrow,’ without any explanation,” Kumar said in a statement.
The MLA questioned how students were expected to manage two critical exams at the same time. “It reflects poorly on the university’s credibility to postpone an exam just 24 hours before it was scheduled without proper consideration,” Kumar pointed out.
Kumar contacted Higher Education Minister Dr. M C Sudhakar, who was in Delhi, to seek a resolution. The minister’s secretary facilitated a conference call between Kumar and the university’s registrar to address the issue.
Kumar demanded that the university offer an alternative date for the B Com exam, ensuring that students pursuing CA qualifications are not disadvantaged.
Earlier, the UCG-NET 2025 which was scheduled to be held on January 15 was postponed due to Makar Sankranti and Pongal festivities.
